Managed email service provide Postini Inc said yesterday that against the traffic it scanned in June the number of IM attacks against corporate networks not only rose 160% but it detected new IM-based threats such as the Prokeylogger. This logs the keystrokes typed by a PC user, to try to capture passwords and screenshots for onward transmission to identity thieves.

Meanwhile, researchers at email security and filtering vendor CipherTrust Inc last month identified that image-based spam, which has doubled in volume during the last quarter, is now responsible for up to 30% of all spam sent.
