A federal judge has ordered Microsoft Corp to remove the Java compatible logo from Internet Explorer and its Software Developers Kit for Java. Sun sued Microsoft last October alleging that IE 4.0 and the Developer Kit did not pass its compatibility tests (CI No 3,263). US District Judge Ronald Whyte issued the injunction from the San Jose court rooms yesterday, following hearings last month. Microsoft was claiming that both products were Java compatible, but Sun said that it would not authorise use of the cup-and-steam logo if Microsoft could not pass its tests. Microsoft said it would immediately comply with the court’s ruling, but we are confident that once all the facts are presented in the larger case the court will find Microsoft to be in full compliance.
