US District Court Judge James Ware granted Intel Corp’s motion for a partial summary judgement in the anti-trust suit brought against the company by Advanced Micro Devices Inc on the grounds that there is a four-year statute of limitations on such complaints and that the alleged offences covered by the part of the suit dismissed started more than four years ago and that AMD either knew or by due diligence should have known of the possible anti-trust cause of actions months before the statute limitations had run. Advanced Micro’s claims that Intel illegally tied microprocessor sales to purchases of other products still stand and remain to be heard. A final ruling on Advanced Micro’s separate suit charging that Intel reneged on its iAPX-86 second source agreement signed in 1982 is due to be given later this month.
