IBM Corp may have a whole lot of things on its mind these days, but they still include hockey, and word from Toronto is that IBM technology is calling many of the plays at the new Hockey Hall of Fame, which opened in the cosmopolitan Canadian city last week. An AS/400, combined with PS/2s, PS/1s and Ultimedia technology, is playing an integral role in the new facility, which offers visitors an exciting array of interactive exhibits and hockey memorabilia, including a replica of the Montreal Canadiens dressing room, a TSN control room, computer touch screens and a usable ice surface. Another area of the complex houses a trivia game run by PS/1s, as well as a six-ton electronic information scoreboard operated by the AS/400. Here, fans can get the latest in hockey news – everything from National Hockey League statistics and game summaries to fast-breaking bulletins. In addition, the AS/400 acts as the ‘brains’ behind the business applications for the Hall – to which our New York colleague who specialises in the AS/400 responds Being somewhat in the know, I find this statement unbelievable…
