Steve Jobs’ San Rafael, California-based Pixar Inc has laid off 30 of its 72 employees because of slow sales of its graphics software – and the cuts go right to the top with president Charles Kolstad being bounced to be replaced by Edward Catmul, a Pixar co-founder. The lay-offs follow a decision to stop selling the Showplace application and instead to license it to a major software company. Jobs told the New York Times that the company’s software had not caught on because most desktop computers are not yet powerful enough. He said he had no regrets and remains hopeful of Pixar. I’ve stuck with it this far and the payoff looks like it should be in the next 24 months.
