Mountain View, California-based Sun Microsystems Inc’s JavaSoft unit is offering a new version of the HotJava browser, which runs Java version 1.0 applets; the older version ran only alpha versions of applets and was superseded by Netscape Communications Corp’s Navigator 2.0 which supported beta releases of applets. JavaSoft also created a two-dimensional graphics application programming interface extension using the PostScript-based Bravo two-dimensional imaging model, which it has licensed from Adobe Systems Inc. The unit will also be adding Atlanta, Georgia-based Intersolv Corp’s Object DataBase Connectivity application programming interface to its Java DataBase Connectivity application programming interface. It is claimed to be compatible with all Object DataBase Connectivity drivers and will enable developers to create applications that are able to access databases. A beta release and test suites are due to be ready next month..
