Despite all the hype, Sun Microsystems Inc’s Java isn’t going to make it as a broadly accepted technology in 1997, and usage of Microsoft Corp’s ActiveX will remain a Microsoft-only technology, according to the predictions of Robert Denny, the developer who wrote O’Reilly & Associates’ flagship WebSite Professional Internet server. Denny also predicts that intranets will not see explosive growth in the coming year. Rather, he says, intranet technology will gradually seep into corporate America over the next three to five years. Denny plans to tell all, with another eight provocative prognostications to boot, at the Internet World show in New York on December 11 to 13.
