The San Francisco-based company says that JasperDecisions 3.1 report aggregation server now provides built-in links to the JasperReports open source report engine.
JasperDecisions users can access, run and administer JasperReports report designs natively. The reports can be surfaced via dashboards or report design portals, like JasperDecisions’ Scope Center.
Other improvements to JasperDecisions include enhanced report output, upgraded internationalization capability (through auto-language, date and time format detection) and improvements to Scope Designer. Report output now also includes Excel, CSV and XML on top of PDF and HTML.
JasperSoft has also released an updated version of JasperReports, 1.1, that broadens report formatting options to include cross-tabs for financial statements and summaries by month, quarter or year.
JasperSoft is using JasperReports and JasperDecisions as a kind of one-two punch offering – the idea being companies will purchase the server and then extend the front-end reporting capabilities for more users as required.
In effect JasperSoft has commercialized the server side of reporting while offering its basic runtime engine free to allow third-party open source providers to write their own designers and tools.
The company boasts over 10,000 customers using JasperReports.
