JAPAN’S PC INDUSTRY’S FIRST QUARTER SALES UP

Figures for Japan’s personal computer industry for the fiscal first quarter to June, put out by the Japan Electronic Industry Development Association show that aggregate home and overseas sales were up 1% on the same period last year to 428,000 units, with $1,043m; domestic shipments were up 24% to a value of $774m, but the effect of the US 100% punitive tariffs is biting hard, and exports were down 3% by volume to 162,000 units, 15% by value to $269m; exports to Southeast Asia grew 35%, to Europe, 6%, but North America was off 28%.
