Major Japanese semiconductor makers led by Toshiba Corp, NEC Corp and Hitachi Ltd will start marketing 4M-bit memory chips below the level that the US and European markets expect this autumn, Newsbytes Japan reckons: generally, it says, the price of a new generation of memory chips is set at some five to seven times higher than the current generation so that 4Ms should be priced between $75 and $105 based on the current price of 1Ms in the market, but 4Ms had been expected to start out higher because they required major new technology – but Toshiba says that the things will be down to around $85 by June next year.
