The Japanese Minister for Posts and Telecommunications has formally asked the president of Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp to have his company increase investment in equipment and look closely at reducing telephone charges in 1987: observers say that relatively high telephone charges in Japan have stifled the growth of domestic computer communications networks, but this should change with the privatisation of NTT and the formation of the several competitive telecommunications firms formed by alliances between the big traders.
