The rush by Japanese computer manufacturers to expand output in the US continues, and Toshiba Corp, NEC Corp, and Seiko-Epson Corp have all laid plans for a dramatical increase in their US output of IBM Personalikes – not least because of growing demand from the US market: Toshiba will add a second line at its Irvine, California plant to increase output of its popular lap-tops by 50% in June, NEC will start producing transportable personal computers in its Boxboro plant in Massachusetts, and Seiko-Epson will produce printers and personal computers at its Portland, Oregon plant, and will almost double US output of its low-end personal computers in March.
