In face of the threat of another bitter trade war over chips, the Japanese industry has decided that discretion is the better part of valour and the leading semiconductor manufacturers have agreed to submit purchase lists of foreign-made chips so that US firms can increase their sales in Japan: the agreement came during a conference of the Electronic Industries Association of Japan and the Semiconductor Industry Association and under it, 10 major Japanese firms will submit the purchase plan lists for a period from July to December this year before ordering from US firms; the Japanese plan to submit the lists to European firms too.
