Several top Japanese electronics manufacturers are racing to take the lead in developing a new type of LCD monitor that offers ultra-high resolution images. Korean makers like LG Electronics are also gearing up to join in. According to reports Hitachi Ltd has built a trial production line for 6-inch and 7-inch panels and both NEC Corp and Matsushita Electric Industrial Co are in the process of doing so. They will produce new low-temperature polycrystal silicon LCDs for smaller and lighter equipment such as compact cellular phones and DVD players, the reports said, with the new LCDs featuring glass substrates incorporating an integrated circuit for displaying images.
