The Green Purchasing Network Office, part of the Japan Environment Association is set to publish guidelines relating to the purchasing of environmentally-friendly personal computers. The GPN is made up of consumers, corporations and government bodies, with corporations including IBM Japan Ltd, NEC Corp and Fujitsu Ltd. The guidelines are due for publication on June 1 and will include recommendations for consumers to consider when they are choosing a new PC. Criteria will include whether the power consumption of a machine is low, whether PCs have extensibility for long-hour usage, whether recycled plastic has been used and whether the PC contains materials that will generate pollutant dioxin when burned.
