The Telecommunications Carriers Association has revealed that 31.41 million users had access to the Internet via Japan’s three wireless carriers NTT DoCoMo Inc. Japan Telecom Co Ltd and DDI Corp. which is better known as KDDI.

That represents more than half of February’s total mobile phone subscriber population of 59.45 million in the world’s second largest telecommunications market and growth rate of 7.41% from the previous month.

DoCoMo led the pack with 19.77 million users, or 62.9% of the total, with its i-mode phones featuring business card-sized screens to surf the Net. KDDI’s EZweb service came in second with 6.11 million users and Japan Telecom’s J-sky service had 5.52 million subscribers.

Of the total figure, DoCoMo commanded the biggest share with 35.15 million cell phone subscribers, representing 59.1% of the market. KDDI had 10.72 million subscribers overall and Japan Telecom had 9.72 million.
