Japan caved in at the end of the year and agreed to extend to 1995 the bilateral agreement with the US on procurement by Nippon Telegraph & Telephone Corp, the Ministry of Posts & Telecommunications said: at a mid-November meeting in Hawaii, Japan had proposed to put the agreement, due to expire at the end of last year, under the General Agreement on Tariffs & Trade, but it has now agreed to extend the pact because of the uncertainty of the world trade talks with regard to telecommunications; Japan did not agree to extend the pact to services.
