Tokyo District Court in Japan has rejected South Korea based Samsung’s plea to ban Apple’s iPhone sales in Japan.
According to Asahi Shimbun, a Japanese newspaper, the court has ruled against Samsung two requests made on 14 September and 11 October, further confirming that the US-based smartphone maker had not infringed patents of Samsung.
Samsung claimed that Apple had infringed its technology for downloading an app to add new functions to a smartphone and the airplane mode, which concludes a device’s communications with no requirement of turning off the power during flight.
According to court, Samsung’s patent infringement claim was unacceptable as the airplane mode feature was not a new innovation, but an extension of earlier innovations.
Earlier in August, Samsung had won a case against Apple that saw the court deciding the Samsung’s Galaxy devices were not infringing on the several patents that Apple was suing over.
Apple had also won a case against Samsung following the court’s order to pay $1.05bn in damages to Apple.
