JAIS, a value-added network operator affiliated to Sumitomo Corp, has decided to enter the network services market in the US: it will link exchanges in its offices in New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles by leased lines rented from AT&T, and will begin offering remote computing services aimed mainly at Japanese companies operating in the US; it will use Kokusai Denshin Denwa’s Venus-P X25 international packet-switched service, and will also provide connections to other Japanese value-added services; JAIS USA was established in 1985 and JAIS California last year, already has 100 employees in the US working on software and systems development, and plans to extend services to other US cities.
