Jabber talks integration with WebEx

Two real-time collaboration and Web conferencing software firms inked a deal this week to merge their respective platforms. Jabber says it will integrate its business communications software with WebEx Communications' online meeting capabilities.

The integration will effectively allow Jabber users to launch WebEx meeting from Jabber’s instant messaging clients.

Denver, Colorado-based Jabber says the integration will be complete by the third quarter this year.

Jabber’s Extensible Communication Platform (XCP) is built on the IEFTF-approved XMPP (extensible messaging and presence protocol) instant messaging standard. The company claims there are ten million users of XMPP worldwide today.

San Jose, California-based WebEx is a market leader in Web conferencing software.

Both companies are eyeing lucrative joint and cross-sell opportunities in the near-term.
