J D Edwards & Co, the business software house which floated last September, has produced another sparkling quarter of growth as it continues to accelerate past its rival ERP vendors. Revenues for the Denver, Colorado-based company’s second quarter rose 43% to $209m which in revenue terms brings it level with Dutch firm Baan Co NV and closer to the likes of PeopleSoft Inc. Operating profits rose by 78% to $16m, while net profits climbed 154% to $12.3m. But the latter figure isn’t representative as it includes $3.7m of gross interest income from the company’s flotation cash pile. Software license revenues jumped by 57% in the six months to $144.4m, while services were up 37% to $242.8m in the same period. By comparison, J D Edwards’ sometime rival in the IBM AS/400 market space, System Software Associates Inc, last week announced meager revenue growth alongside substantial losses.
