J2ME selected for Korean wireless internet platform

South Korea has adopted Java as the technology to develop internet access for mobile devices via the Wireless Internet Platform for Interoperability (WIPI).

The Korean Wireless internet Standardization Forum (KWISF), led by operators SK Telecom, KTF and LG TeleCom, has agreed to jointly develop the next version of WIPI on the official Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME) specification, Sun said this week.
