ITV has picked Apigee to open up its APIs to third-parties as it seeks to build one platform for its various channels.

The broadcaster has tasked Apigee to use APIs to integrate its many different IT legacy systems in order to build one platform that securely exposes data around its five digital channels to internal and external developers.

The television network hopes the move will extend its reach in digital TV, building on content deals with partners Netflix and iTunes as well as its own ITV Player.

Paul Clark, technology controller for Online, Pay & Interactive at ITV, said: "APIs are one of the key tools we’re using to ensure ITV is an agile, responsive digital business. Through APIs we can integrate and leverage our IT systems and securely expose our applications and data to internal and external developers and partners."

Ed Anuff, Apigee’s VP of product strategy, added: "APIs are the cornerstone of digital transformation – something that is becoming a prerequisite for all businesses in this age of digital disruption.

"Our platform will power ITV’s digital offering, allowing them to provide a better service for customers across all screens."
