ITALIAN CELLULAR FRANCHISE NUMBER TWO BY APRIL

The winner of Italy’s second cellular telephone franchise will be chosen by the end of April, Post and Telecommunications Minister Maurizio Pagani announced: according to Reuter, three consortia are known to be interested in bidding – Omnitel, including Ing C Olivetti & Co SpA, Bell Atlantic Corp, Lehman Brothers, Telia AB and Cellular International Corp; Pronto Italia including Pacific Telecom SG, Warburg Group, and Marzotto SpA; and Unitel, which brings together car maker Fiat SpA, Fininvest SpA – the media holding company of Silvio Berlusconi, and Vodafone Group Plc.
