Wang Global Inc has gone to NetSuite Development Corp, a Concord, Massachusetts-based company, for the technology behind its new Network Assist Discovery Service. Part of Wang’s NetWorkPlace suite of project and managed services, the NetSuite tools will be used by Wang consultants worldwide to offer its customers network inventory services so that they can implement asset management and keep documentation up to date. The tools also enable customers to make more informed decisions about the evolution of their networks.

Formed in 1995, NetSuite won NCR Corp’s Network Services consulting division as one of its earliest customers a year later. Unisys Corp, Seagate Software Inc and Siemens AG’s Private Communication Systems Group also signed strategic marketing agreements with the company, and its customers include consulting firms, financial institutions, government agencies, manufacturing organizations, universities, and telecommunications firms.

NetSuite’s tools gather information about network device characteristics, IEEE and VLAN design rules, connection validation rules, protocol consistency checks and Year 2000 compliance. Applications built on top can be used to automate aspects of the network lifecycle, including discovery, design, validation and documentation. As an optional part of the Network Assist Discovery Service, Wang says it is offering a Y2K Readiness Assessment service, to determine the Year 2000 readiness status of devices on the network.
