Compaq Computer Corp’s European Operations Management Center (EOMC) has reported that its revenues since opening last April have increased by 300%. The figure is based on the revenue Compaq’s services division received from its 20 clients at the time the remote systems management center opened, and how much it gets from its current 37 customers.

Compaq simultaneously announced a $320,000 investment in the center, located in Reading, UK, to increase the number of staff from 87 to 115. This will be followed by a $640,000 investment in June, to double the size of the center and bring in 75 new staff. This will bring the total investment in the center and its sister call-center in Dublin to $10.6m.

The EOMC carries out remote outsourcing of systems management for clients such as British Telecommunications Plc. Each one of its 20 OMC’s, including three ‘hubs’ on major continents, are operated like franchises to create a recognizable global brand among its customers. Everything from the floorplan to the boardroom chairs are intended to be the same no matter what the location. The OMCs form the cornerstone of Compaq’s services strategy, which will be examined by ComputerWire in a forthcoming edition.
