Less than half (44%) of the HR decision-makers in a survey published this week by security firm Clearswift are working with IT to develop policies on access to social networking sites. Only 21% of HR people are involved in monitoring employee internet usage, compared to 82% of IT departments and if IT do discover a problem, they only notify half the HR directors.
With better dialogue between IT and HR, companies could create a policy that benefits the business without compromising security, said John Court, IT project manager at law firm SJ Berwin at a recent Clearswift roundtable event on Web 2.0 and social networking.
