ISTEL RECEIVES UK GOVERNMENT GRANT FOR SOFTWARE ENGINEERING PROJECT

By CBR Staff Writer

Istel Plc, the leveraged buyout from Rover Group based in Redditch, Worcestershire has UKP189,645 of UK government money to finance one of the first demonstrator projects of software engineering: the project will use UK National Computing Centre-defined metrics to prove the effectiveness or not of formal design methods (Jackson Structured Design), prototyping and developing workstation-based Integrated Programming Support Environments or IPSEs and will spread over two years the design of a manufacturing purchasing system for Austen Rover; much of the work will rest on ideas from Barry Boehm’s pioneering work at TRW Inc in the US and results will be available to the public.
