In a conference call announcing Internet Security Systems’ (ISS) year-end financial results, chief executive Tom Noonan said that the company will ship Proventia Desktop this quarter, and will follow it up with Proventia Server shortly after.

The move marks the expansion of ISS’s portfolio from network IPS to host IPS. Proventia Desktop will replace its RealSecure desktop firewall software, which is typically used to protect enterprise desktops.

The forthcoming products include our intrusion prevention core engine, as well as personal firewalling, spyware blocking, buffer overflow exploit protection, application protection, and virus prevention Noonan told analysts.

The company moved to its Proventia brand over a year ago, and in late 2004 laid out its Enterprise Security Platform, which it said would provide a higher level of preemptive protection than the industry has been able to provide to date.
