Internet Security Systems Inc (ISS) will make the remote security management software it acquired from Netrex Secure Solutions the centerpiece of its strategy. ISS expects Netrex’s epatrol package to provide up to 50% of ISS’ revenue within two years, according to Chris Klaus, the chief technology officer. The Atlanta, Georgia firm acquired Netrex at the beginning of September (CI No 3,739).

Netrex sees revenue of approximately $20m from its three Network Operational Centers (NOC) in the US and will build another in Atlanta. It also plans to have one for each country in which it is present, which includes Belgium, Brazil, France, Japan, UK and Germany.

The Atlanta firm is trying to position itself in the security management space, with managed services providing a security infrastructure regardless of the tool vendors. It is working on a reporting tool, code-named Global Threat Monitor, which oversees all network security, processes the information and automatically sends reports to the relevant people. The software will be finished some time next year and is intended to compete with Network Associates’ Event Orchestrator.

ISS is also working to develop its product range in the assessment software arena, specifically a telephony scanner which checks the traffic entering networks from modems located inside corporate firewalls which will be available in the first quarter next year.
