Investors In Industry Plc, 3i, has pumped an undisclosed sum into a new data communications company, Isogon Communications Systems Ltd in return for a 25% stake. Founded by five former employees of Infotron Systems, who own 42% of the equity, the Redditch, Worcestershire-based company specialises in mid-range equipment and a network management system. The management system was originally called Maestro, and developed by a UK company as inventory control software. Now in the process of being renamed, it has been modified for data communications and is used to bolt together various mid-range products. Isogon’s portfolio also includes the full range of AT&T’s Paradyne modems, an Ethernet or Token Ring bridge, and turnkey systems either through third parties or via Isogon itself. The company also intends to offer maintenance shortly. It is pitching for business from local government, mid-range industrial companies and health authorities, and will also do large stand-alone systems.
