How’s that for an open standards process? The chairman of the committee of the International Standards Organization that’s handling Sun Microsystems Inc application to become an ISO standards submitter, was a bit put out by the disclosure of the votes for and against through the Joint Technical Committee 1, Special Committee 22 (JTC1 SC22) mailing list last week, upon which we based our story. Bob Follett explained in the posting that it should not have been disclosed on the list as only documents up to but not including a certain level, called Draft International Standards (DIS), can be publicly discussed, and that the details of the votes should not be distributed further. It’s too late for that now (CI No 3,209).
