Sutton, Surrey-based Securicor 3Net Ltd, the ISDN supplier unit of Securicor Group’s Securicor Communications Ltd division, has acquired Wisdm Ltd – best known for its ISDN products such as terminal adaptors, PC Cards and back-up units – on undisclosed terms. Under the acquisition, which is the fourth involving a UK ISDN firm this year, Wisdm’s operations and product portfolio will be merged and integrated with that of 3Net’s Network Systems Division. According to 3Net, Wisdm’s stand-alone and rack-based back-up units will complement its OmniBand family of inverse multiplexers, while its Mini-Wizard Terminal Adapter and IS2000 personal computer board will add remote access capabilities to the 3Net Gallery family of ISDN local network routers. For its part, Wisdm said the purchase will enable it to benefit from 3Net’s financial strength and logistical infrastructure, by enabling it to invest more aggressively in new products and bring these to the market earlier. Once the deal is completed, 3Net said that remote access and the Internet market will become a focus for new developments, with both central and remote site products promised. The deal marks the third acquisition by 3Net – itself acquired by Securicor Communications back in September 1993, in just over a year: it acquired Moorestown, New Jersey-headquartered Telesciences Inc in July 1994, and it took control of Australia and New Zealand-based Networks Dynamics Pty Ltd, a developer of multiprotocol router technology earlier this year.
