Facebook might launch a new feature to its iOS app, which will allow users to schedule deletion of their post in advance.

Few users spotted the new feature in their Facebook iOS app and the Next Web quoted a spokesperson for Facebook as saying: "We’re running a small pilot of a feature on Facebook for iOS that lets people schedule deletion of their posts in advance."

The new feature will allow users to schedule their post for deletion within 1 hour of being published to seven days.

According to the report, the post may not show up in the user’s profile after it was deleted but it will take up to 90 days for the post to get wiped off from the servers of the social networking site.

Facebook has always tried to introduce Snapchat like features to its service, it even attempted to buy the self destructive messaging app for a reported $3bn, but the offer was declined by Snapchat founder.

In 2012 the company launched Poke, which was similar to Snapchat where users can send messages with a preset time limit, after which it automatically vanishes, but the feature failed to meet the company’s expectation.

Later Facebook went on to create a standalone messaging app named Slingshot with similar features, and now it is testing a new post deletion feature which would be released based upon the user response.
