By CBR Staff Writer

Ireland’s national telecommunications operator Telecom Eireann, has assembled a national broadband network with core, edge and consumer premise equipment provided by Alcatel Data Networks, Alcatel Telecom SA has said. The network, based on Alcatel Avanza architecture, will allow Telecom Eireann to supply a national experimental broadband network and fulfil its obligations as a National Host under the European Advanced Communications Technology and Services program, ACTS, the European initiative to improve communications on the continent. The network will include the Alcatel 1000AX for the core ATM backbone, the Alcatel l100 HSS Multiservice switch for the edge nodes and the Alcatel 1100 LSS for the customer premise equipment.
