Dermot Ahern the Irish Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources announced the months-long trial, which will be funded by the government and the ESB and take place in the Tuam area of the Galway County, on Monday.
The Department said in a statement that powerline technology is now approaching a stage where it could be a feasible alternative to traditional broadband networks and pointed to successful trials in the US and Germany.
