Enterprise reporting tools company IQ Software Corp is expanding its offerings through the purchase of technology from Intersolv Inc. IQ is buying Intersolv’s DataDirect Explorer and DataDirect SmartData products, as well as the underlying technology and the installed customer base, for an undisclosed price. DataDirect Explorer is an end user query tool for Windows and OS/2 which enables the access and delivery of information into spreadsheets and reports. DataDirect SmartData is a metadata tool for presenting a business-oriented view of databases to end users. One of the key interests in the purchase for IQ is a set of macros that integrates the Explorer product with Microsoft Excel. The macros allow for ad hoc queries within Excel and can place the results directly into a spreadsheet without switching to another application.
