Waltham, Massachusetts based IPL Systems Inc has complemented its 7636 disk array for the AS/400 with a new IPL 7936 disk array alternative to IBM’s 9336 for the AS/400 9406 B and D models, claiming pricing of less than $10 per Megabyte. The IPL 7936, which uses 471Mb and 857Mb 5.25 disk drives from Seagate Technology Inc, is available in three models, the 10, 20 and 30, the 20 out now, the other two next month. The Model 30 uses four of each of the drives to store 5.3Gb, the 20 stores 3.4Gb and the 10, 1.88Gb. IPL will offer the Model 30 at the same $48,500 price as the 20 until year end when it rises to $63,000. Model 10 costs $39,600. Free upgrades for 20s ordered before October.
