A new design is been developed for the ‘social magazine’ for the iPad – Flipboard – which will be launched on the iPhone in the end of this year, according to company’s co-founder.
At the South By Southwest (SXSW) technology conference in Austin, Texas, Mike McCue said the app would require a complete redesign for the iPhone’s smaller screen, reported The Telegraph.
The release of the new version is expected by this, according to the co-founder, who added that an Android version of the service is not yet in their plans.
The links that friends share online are pick up by Flipboard and lays them out in a magazine format.
Since it launched last year on the iPad, Flipboard has partnered with 15 publishers whose content is optimised for the app.
McCue said, "Making content look great is one of the things that I am very passionate about. Tablet devices meant rethinking the way content is displayed. The web is still living in the mid-90s templates."
Flipboard co-founder Evan Doll told The Telegraph that the company would also look at updating the app to take advantage of the iPad 2, launched in the US on Friday.
"Flipboard runs very quickly on the iPad 2 but there are things that the company can do to speed it up further," he said.
Doll claims that one of the key reasons for Flipboard’s success was that it had been designed specifically for the iPad.
