IoT and apps get platform bridge

ThingWorx Converge claims it will link manufacturers, app devs and system integrators.

By Joao Lima

PTC has launched the ThingWorx Converge IoT offering that leverages the ThingWorx platform for connectivity, device management and rapid application development.

It adds pre-built capabilities to its existing platform for those who create, operate and service manufactured products as well as their application developers and system integrator suppliers.

It said it is an IoT hub which gives access, collects, organises and exposes data, events and services of connected things

Howard Heppelmann, GM at PTC said: "Companies need a consistent framework for application developers, system integrators and technology providers to develop modular and sustainable IoT applications for smart products.

"The ThingWorx Converge offering leverages a common data model and connects all the people who need access to the IoT hub for a more efficient process."

ThingWorx Converge features a centralised hub for real time product data as organisations can IoT-enable existing enterprise systems and business processes to deliver new value throughout the manufacturing value chain.

The company added that the solution will also be an out-of-the-box data model for manufactured things, with standard integrations and ready to deploy management utilities developed from thousands of industry engagements and built on the ThingWorx platform.

Finally, PTC said the application will improve customer service and support as well as product usability with OOTB capabilities to remotely monitor, manage, access and control products and assets.

David Sherburne, Director at Carestream Health said: "Applications like ThingWorx Converge should help companies pull the internal pieces together and enable innovation around data and drive more business value to customers."

PTC added that the ThingWorx Converge solution is expected to be available in June 2015.
