Ionica S3 Ltd, the Cambridge company with a UK national public telephone operator’s licence, now plans to launch its radio-based fixed phone service in the first quarter next year. Northern Telecom Ltd just announced a $10m order for fixed radio access network equipment from Ionica. The Proximity I fixed radio access system was developed in conjunction with Ionica, and is being deployed as a foundation of the new telephone service.
