Iona Technologies Ltd’s second big win of the day is NEC Corp, which has decided to make, sell and support the company’s Orbix object request broker worldwide (see item in top story section). Iona is implementing a version of the Object Management Group’s Notification Service – a publish and subscribe specification – as OrbixNotification in a joint development with NEC System Labs in San Jose. It’s due in the third quarter. Iona also unveiled the server implementation of its OrbixCOMnet product which enables developers to create server-based applications which support bi- directional communication between Microsoft Corp DCOM or OMG Corba IIOP protocols.
