With an impressive first quarter under its belt Iona Technologies Ltd will extend its relationship with Hewlett-Packard Co and Netscape Communications Corp today as HP develops initiatives for developing and deploying Java-based technologies for Windows NT across the internet. HP, Iona’s most impressive recent win will use Iona and Netscape technologies in the initiative. HP says it will try to bridge Java and NT, and claims the fact that Java does not yet extend to NT [means] you have a problem that urgently needs a solution. Iona yesterday reported first quarter net income up 42% at $2m on $1.4m last time on revenue up 93% at $17.6m compared with $9.1m. Net per share was $0.10, which hit consensus estimates on the nose. Revenue from the US was 65%, up 2%. Its most important platforms remain Solaris and NT, followed by HP, MVS and then others.
