IOMEGA READIES ZIP DRIVES FOR NOTEBOOKS

By CBR Staff Writer

Iomega Corp, which last month announced that worldwide shipments of its Zip drive topped six million (CI No 3,173), says that the internal notebook version of the Zip will be available to manufacturers in the second half of this year. The company says that Micron Electronics Inc will include the Zip as an optional feature in the high-end TransPort series of notebooks which it is introducing at PC Expo in New York this week. The notebook Zip drive will use standard 100 megabyte Zip disks. In addition to Micron, Iomega has OEM deals with NEC Computer Systems Division, Chicony Electronics Co Ltd, VST Technologies and CNF Technologies to put Zip drives in notebooks.
