Iomega says that its 2-gigabyte Jaz drives and disks, originally scheduled for shipment in the fourth quarter of this year (CI No 3,253), are now expected to start shipping sometime in the first quarter of 1998. The company says the delay was due to the need for further product testing. Iomega reckons that its 1-gigabyte Jaz drives already have an installed base of over one million. The Jaz 2Gb are said to operate at a sustained transfer rate of 8.7 megabytes per second – 40% faster than the original Jaz drive and suitable for full-motion video. Prices for the new drive are $650 for the external model and $550 for the internal model, with 2GB disks priced at $150 per 3-pack.
