As part of a technical alliance signed by the two companies, Inxight Software Inc will integrate its ThingFinder entity and fact extraction technologies with Visual Analytics Inc’s Digital Information Gateway Symphony platform and VisualLinks software.

ThingFinder works by identifying the critical entities (people, places, etc) and related facts and events in unstructured text. Visual Insight’s Symphony and VisualLinks tools manipulate and analyze these entities to graphically uncover patterns, trends and hidden relationships between them to drive intelligent business decisions.

The alliance is brokered by Inxight’s Federal Systems Group based in Reston, Virginia that specializes in developing federated search, extraction and data visualization systems development for over 100 government agencies including Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security and Commonwealth Secretariat.

The deal is interesting case of co-opetition because both companies seem to have competitive, overlapping tools for unstructured data management and analysis and data visualization.

However David Guercio, CEO of Inxight Federal Systems, sees the partnership as a natural fit.

Combining ThingFinder with the Visual Analytics’ visualization capabilities significantly increases the productivity of analysts and offers a more complete analytical solution for law enforcement agencies, the intelligence community, and various commercial interests.

Visual Analytics is privately held and headquartered in the Washington DC area.
