INTUIT DROPS OPTION ON LEGAL KNOWLEDGE SYSTEMS

Menlo Park, California-based Intuit Inc has dropped its option to buy Legal Knowledge Systems Inc after the US Justice Department warned that the purchase could give the company control of the two most popular tax-preparation software systems; it says the decision means that it is free to complete its proposed acquisition of ChipSoft Inc; H&R Block Inc just acquired MECA Software Inc, which markets the Legal Knowledge product, and will now own Legal Knowledge too.
