An intranet security start-up named RedCreek Communications Inc is about to emerge from behind a self-imposed veil of secrecy with a line of NT-based software and hardware products that will eventually span everything from modem-speed desktop products to asynchronous transfer mode-speed server links, hears our sister publication ClieNT Server News. The infant company, headquartered in the small southern California town of Newark, was set up by a group of Cylink Corporation executives including business development manager Bill Wiedemann, RedCreek’s founder and president, and senior engineering manager John Yin, RedCreek co- founder and chief technology officer. Wiedemann founded RedCreek in July after being constantly told during Cylink sales calls that the security devices he was trying to sell were simply too expensive. RedCreek’s premiere product family now set to debut imminently, are all built around a security technology and kernel called CryptoCore that RedCreek has developed and is trying to patent. The RedCreek line starts with the Ravlin 4, a $1,300 unit that supports T1/E1 and 10BaseT Ethernet. The Ravlin 10 at $3,500 adds remote access and supports full 10Mbps Ethernet. The Ravlin 100, an $18,000 unit that supports 100Mbps fast Ethernet, is set for launch inSeptember. In the early stages of development is the Ravlin 155, which is a $35,000 system for 155Mbps asynchronous transfer mode.
