Disarming confession by a British Telecom payphone engineer interviewed on BBC Radio Four’s Today programme yesterday morning in an item on Oftel’s findings that only 22% of payphones were out of order in the most recent of the monthly surveys – the target is for 90% working by the end of March: when we’re paged and we have to phone in to the office, he said, we find that we have to repair the phone before we can make the call.
