The Teleport concept of wiring a city with fibre optic cable to provide an alternative to the local phone company’s copper system has moved on to Denver, Colorado, where Intertel Communications Inc says it has completed an $18m loan for its Teleport Denver Ltd subsidiary from Northern Telecom Ltd’s Communications Credit Corp subsidiary: the cash will go to build the Denver metropolitan area’s first major self-healing all-fibre optic system that will transmit signals in the opposite direction if the loop is broken; it will offer an alternative link from users to long-distance telephone company systems.
